Everything was in our favor for this fall paddle on the Middle Raccoon. Thanks Lynn Aldridge with Central Iowa Paddlers for sending out a last minute invite for this trip. Temperatures were in the mid 60’s with a calm wind and water flow was excellent.

I’m calling this a creek walk even though only half of the hike included the creek. Peas Creek is where my son and I lingered and it made a big impression on us. The creek was at the perfect flow for a manageable walk.

My first Red Rock paddle was more about the boat than the lake. This was the maiden voyage of my used Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro sit-on-top kayak. These kayaks are popular in California and Florida but fairly rare in Iowa. After months of searching I finally located one on a hog farm in Clarion, Iowa.
